Homes in OC and the City of Orange
Homes in OC and the City of Orange
Homes in OC are only located about three miles from the county seat. This area of California is somewhat different from many other cities. There are many homes located here, especially in the Old Town District that have been in existence before 1920. These homes have survived what many did not. They were preserved by the city of Orange and many others in surrounding cities were torn down in the 1960s. The homes in OC border the wealthy city of Villa Park.
The Orange Historic District is listed on the national Register of Historic Places. Containing many of the structures that were originally built after Orange was incorporated, one is the oldest soda fountain still in operation and another is the oldest bank still in operation.
Many of the homes in OC located here are of various architectural styles. They include Mediterranean Revival, Victorian, Spanish Colonial Revival, Bungalow, Arts and Crafts Movement, Prairie Style and Hip roof cottages. The only remaining fruit packing plant in Orange County is the Villa Park Orchards Association and the only restored house museum here is the Lewis Ainsworth House.
The Woman’s Club of Orange, which is near the Plaza in the Old Towne District, is also in the National Register of Historic Places, having been built in 1923-1924. The Woman’s Club has an annual Flower Show and in April will celebrate their 72nd anniversary in April. Homes in OC enjoy a variety of lakes, parks, a wil
dlife sanctuary, a university and a zoo. The Plaza is also the location of many antique stores. This is an area that is well know to antique collectors and many restaurants and clothing boutiques have recently moved into the area as well.
The Block at Orange is an outdoor shopping venue as well as being an entertainment area. There are several outdoor shopping retailers, such a Saks Fifth Avenue, Ann Taylor, Hollister and Old Navy. In addition, Skatepark, Dave & Buster’s, Lucky Strike Bowling Center and AMC Theatres are available for residents of homes in OC.
For more than 100 years, the Plaza is the location of the Orange International Street Fair. During Labor Day weekend, residents of homes in OC enjoy the wide variety of culture available at this event. There is a huge assortment of food, dance and music from around the world. All proceeds go to non-profit charities that help people in the Orange community.
